One of the most challenging things in pet portraits is working with a pup that is all over the place. It's hard to capture the perfect shot. However, there are a few tips for dogs that can't sit still and techniques you can use to improve the chances of snapping a great portrait.
- Bring your pet's favorite toys and or treats. Use them to engage with them. Keeping their attention on you and essentially, the camera. Earlier this month, I shared tricks for training your pet to sit and the usage of positive reinforcement. Revisit that blog, and know that rewarding your pet for sitting still or looking in my direction is always encouraged.
- Work with a professional. Aka - me. I specialize in pets. Working with a professional like myself ensures a positive experience for both you and your pet. Over time, I've developed techniques and strategies for capturing animals' attention even if it's just for a snap second.
- Be open to candid moments. Life isn't posed, so embrace your pet's natural behavior and attitude.
All in all, the most important tips for dogs all come back to patience and sharing a relaxed demeanor. Dogs pick up on your emotions, so if you are flustered, that can further their anxiety and pacing. Don't be too hard on yourself if things don't go exactly as planned.
